Lowell, MA -- April 6, 1982 -- A badly mutilated body found by hikers Saturday afternoon in a shallow grave in Lowell was identified yesterday as that of a 13-year-old Lowell girl who had been missing since August.
The body of Janice Filamond, who was first reported missing by her mother August 31, 1981, was found at 4:45 p.m. in a shallow grave in a wooded area on the Lowell-Chelmsford line by a family of four hikers, Lowell Police said yesterday. The girl was identified through dental records.
April 12, 1982 -- A man wanted for questioning in the 1981 dismemberment-slaying of a 13- year-old Lowell girl was found dead of carbon monoxide poisoning yesterday in his car.
Lowell Police identified the man as Dennis Baker, 40, of 1982 Middlesex St., Lowell. A suicide note was found beside his body, according to investigators, who would not release its contents last night.
