NEPTUNE, N.J. -- Two fishermen found a badly decomposed corpse in a Monmouth County waterway.
Authorities say they have few clues as to its identity. They say the body found Monday in the Shark River in Neptune had probably been underwater for several months before surfacing.
An autopsy performed Tuesday found that the male victim had sustained some trauma. But the cause of death could not be determined.
Authorities believe the man was white, about six feet tall, and weighed about 200 pounds. He had tattoos on his chest and arm, including one that showed a hand holding a gun and another described as a red-and-black tribal design.
State police will lead the investigation because the body was found in a navigable waterway.
